How do I know what color sock to wear? |
 |
Generally speaking, if you are wearing a suit or a sport coat and dress trousers, your socks
should be of the same color or darker than your trousers. On occasion, for a more casual look,
lighter color socks are worn. This more casual look is becoming more popular but is not
appropriate for normal business wear. Pattern socks are also now accepted if the pattern is
subdued and the proper color. For strictly casual wear, if you are wearing athletic shoes, wear
athletic socks. If you are wearing casual slip on leather shoes, even bright colored socks are ok. |

Yes! You need to be a little careful, but done right, it's a great look. If done wrong, it makes your eyes cross to look at it! |

Do I need to wear a hat to finish the look? |
 |
Hats are making a comeback! They all but disappeared from men's fashion 35 years ago when John F. Kennedy was President. The past few years have seen a renewed interest in wearing hats, and you now see them on TV shows and in fashion magazines. Kids are even starting to wear more than just baseball caps turned backwards. In the summer, when we all head out-doors, hats are a necessary item to keep the harmful UV rays off our faces. Who wants to be wrinkled prematurely? |

Is a buttondown collar dress shirt dressy enough to wear with a suit? |
 |
With a dark business suit, the dressiest shirt is a solid white with a plain collar. While very popular, the button-down collar shirt is a bit more casual. You may wear it with a business suit for all but the dressiest occasions. |

Are plain bottom pants in style, or should I be wearing cuffed bottoms? |
 |
When pleated pants came back into style, so did cuffed bottoms, especially on dress pants. They help the pant leg hang straighter because of the added weight of the cuff. They can be a pain, because they somehow collect dust in them, and people have been known to catch a heel in the cuff and tear it, but they are in style. While we recommend them, we don't insist on it! |
